Step-by-Step Instructions for Peep Cake with Multi-Colored Layers
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three 8-inch round cake pans with butter or baking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large mixing bowl, cream unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg whites and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with whole milk, until smooth.
- Divide the batter into four bowls and add different pastel food coloring to each. Pour each colored batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- In a mixer bowl, beat unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low. Then, add heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy and smooth. Adjust the consistency with more cream if necessary.
- Once the cake layers are completely cooled, place the first layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting over the top, then place the second layer on top. Repeat for the third layer.
- Frost the top and sides of the entire cake. Decorate with Peeps, sprinkles, shredded coconut, and mini chocolate eggs for a whimsical touch.
