Step-by-Step Instructions for Texas Toast Bread
- In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and, if desired, 1 teaspoon each of garlic and onion powder.
- Once the yeast has activated, pour the frothy yeast mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Add 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter and 2 large eggs. Stir everything together until a sticky dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, shaping it into a ball. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide it into two equal pieces and shape each into a loaf.
- Place the shaped loaves into greased loaf pans and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- About 15 minutes before baking, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Once the oven is heated, remove the towel from the loaves and place them in the oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- After baking, remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes
Water temperature is crucial for activating the yeast correctly. Kneading for the right amount of time gives the bread its delightful elasticity and chewiness. Allow the dough to rise properly for a fluffy texture.
