  • 18-20 peppers Serrano peppers Use gloves while handling.
  • 1 pepper Habanero pepper Optional for additional heat.
  • ¼ cup onion Chopped roughly.
  • 1 clove garlic Peeled and whole.
  • ½ cup white vinegar Can substitute with apple cider vinegar.
  • ¼ cup water Add as needed for texture.
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper Season to taste.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Mexican oregano Regular oregano can be used as well.
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin Optional.
  • 8-10 sprigs cilantro Fresh.
  • 1 lime juice of Can substitute with lemon juice.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse the Serrano peppers under cold water and remove the stems. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
  2. Heat olive oil in a pan, add chopped onion and whole garlic clove, sauté until onion is translucent.
  3. Add Mexican oregano and cumin, stir for another minute to release flavors.
  4. Combine Serrano peppers, white vinegar, water, and salt in the pan. Simmer for about 10 minutes until softened.
  5. Transfer mixture to a blender with cilantro and lime juice. Blend until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Pour sauce into containers, seal tightly, and refrigerate. Use within 3 weeks.
