  • 1 medium Onion finely diced; shallots can be used for milder taste
  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute ground turkey, chicken, or lamb
For the Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon use nutmeg for similar warm spice note
  • 1 teaspoon Allspice a blend of nutmeg and cinnamon can mimic its taste
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika consider smoked paprika for a smokier flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Oregano fresh oregano can be used; increase amount by three times when substituting
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • to taste Salt sea salt preferred for enhanced flavor
For the Saucy Base
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce can substitute with chopped fresh tomatoes
For Freshness
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley can be replaced with basil for different herby profile
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Mint

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it shimmers, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the finely diced onion and sauté for 3-5 minutes, until it becomes soft and golden.
  3. Incorporate the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon and cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned.
  4. Mix in the cumin, cinnamon, allspice, paprika, dried oregano, black pepper, and salt. Stir for about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce, mix well and let it simmer for 3-5 minutes over medium-low heat.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in fresh parsley and mint.
  7. Serve warm over rice, stuffed in pita, or alongside a salad.
