Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare Broccoli Slaw: In a mixing bowl, combine broccoli slaw with mayonnaise, sugar, apple cider vinegar, celery seeds, poppy seeds, pepper, and salt. Stir well and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Toast Bread: Butter outside of rye bread slices. Preheat a skillet over medium heat and toast the bread until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Sear Pastrami: Add butter to the pan if needed, heat, and sear pastrami slices for 1 minute per side until warmed and lightly browned.
  4. Assemble Sandwich: Spread Russian dressing on unbuttered side of bread, layer with pastrami, broccoli slaw, pickles, and Swiss cheese. Top with the other slice of bread.
  5. Fry Sandwich: Return sandwich to skillet over medium-low heat and toast for 4-5 minutes per side, pressing with a spatula until cheese melts and bread is golden.
  6. Serve Hot: Remove sandwich from skillet, let it rest, then cut in half and serve immediately.
