Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 1 cup full-fat cow milk or almond milk for dairy-free
  • 2 tablespoons dry active yeast ensure it's fresh
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour measure carefully

  • 4 tablespoons butter softened; can use vegan butter
Vanilla Cream Filling
  • 1 cup heavy cream can substitute with coconut cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch can be replaced with flour
Jam Filling
  • 1 cup strawberry jam any berry jam can be used
Streusel Topping
  • 1/2 cup butter can be substituted with vegan butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar can use brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour mix until crumbly

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and dry active yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix in all-purpose flour and softened butter. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 3 hours or until doubled in size.
Make the Vanilla Cream Filling
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, sugar, and cornstarch. Stir continuously for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  2. Once thickened, remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
Assemble the Buns
  1. Punch the risen dough down and roll it out to ½ inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into 3-inch squares.
  2. Spoon a dollop of strawberry jam and a tablespoon of vanilla cream filling into the center. Pinch corners to seal.
Prepare the Streusel Topping
  1. Mix together flour, sugar, and softened butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over each assembled bun.
Bake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Let the buns cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before serving dusted with powdered sugar.
