  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce Substitute with tamari for gluten-free option
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar Swap with coconut sugar for less refined choice
  • 1/4 cup Low-sodium chicken stock Vegetable broth works for non-meat versions
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch Thickens the sauce perfectly
  • 1/2 teaspoon Rice vinegar Apple cider vinegar can be used
  • 1/2 teaspoon Toasted sesame oil Optional but recommended for authenticity

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, chicken stock, cornstarch, rice vinegar, and toasted sesame oil until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli and sauté for about 1 minute.
  3. Quickly add 3 tablespoons of water to the pan, then cover with a lid to steam the broccoli for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook for 5-6 minutes until browned.
  6. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  7. Pour the prepared sauce mixture into the pan with the beef and stir well to combine.
  8. Return the sautéed broccoli to the skillet, tossing everything together gently.
  9. Remove the skillet from heat and serve immediately.
