Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the puff pastry onto the lined baking sheet. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine almond paste, softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling along the center third of the puff pastry.
  5. Make diagonal cuts about one inch apart on each side of the filling. Fold pastry strips over in a braid pattern.
  6. Brush the top with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffy, with toasted almonds.
  8. Cool for 5 minutes and dust lightly with powdered sugar before slicing.
