Ingredients

For the Fruit Layer
  • 1 medium Orange Adds sweet citrus flavor; substitute with blood orange for a deeper color.
  • 1 medium Lemon Provides tanginess; use lime juice if a sharper taste is desired.
  • 1 medium Lime Contributes brightness; you can replace it with additional lemon if needed.
  • 2 cups Apples Adds crunch and sweetness; any sweet apple variety can work (e.g., Gala, Fuji).
For the Juices
  • 2 cups Red Grape Juice Serves as the base for the drink, lending rich color and flavor.
  • 2 cups White Grape Juice Adds sweetness without overpowering.
  • 1 cup Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice Enhances freshness; bottle juice can be used, but fresh is recommended.
  • 1/4 cup Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice Brightens the flavor profile; bottled lemon juice can be used if in a pinch.
  • 1/4 cup Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice Adds a zesty kick; omit if not available.
For the Sparkle
  • 2 cups Sparkling Apple Cider Provides fizz and can be adjusted based on sweetness preference.
  • Plain Seltzer Can be used as an alternative.

Equipment

  • 4-quart glass pitcher
  • Long spoon or skewer
  • Sturdy glasses

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. In a 4-quart glass pitcher, start by arranging the fruit beautifully. Layer half of the orange, lemon, and lime slices, along with the chopped apples.
  2. Gently place the remaining slices of orange, lemon, and lime on top of the initial fruit layer along with the rest of the chopped apples.
  3. Pour in the red grape juice, white grape juice, freshly squeezed orange juice, lemon juice, and lime juice into the pitcher.
  4. Gently stir the mixture to combine all the elements well without damaging the fruit slices.
  5. Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Just before serving, add the sparkling apple cider or plain seltzer to the pitcher and stir gently.
  7. Fill sturdy glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled Virgin Sangria Mocktail over the top.
