  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch Can be swapped with arrowroot for gluten-free.
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour Omit for gluten-free dishes.
For the Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Honey Maple syrup can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar White vinegar can be used if needed.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • 3 cloves Fresh Minced Garlic Powdered garlic can work in emergencies.
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger Ground ginger can be used in smaller quantities.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chili Flakes Optional for added heat.
For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions Sliced.
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, then season with salt and pepper. Mix cornstarch and flour in a bowl and coat the chicken thoroughly.
  2. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until small bubbles form.
  3. Fry the coated chicken for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and ginger over medium heat. Simmer for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add the fried chicken to the saucepan, tossing to coat evenly with the sauce.
  6. Plate the chicken, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve immediately.
