Ingredients

For the Ham
  • 7-8 lbs fully cooked bone-in ham selecting a quality ham is key for optimal flavor
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup honey adds sweetness and creates that signature glaze; for a unique twist, consider using maple syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar enhances sweetness and aids in caramelization; light or dark options available
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard provides a tangy contrast to the sweetness; yellow mustard can be a milder alternative
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted enriches the glaze and helps blend the ingredients smoothly; substitute with oil for a lighter version
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon infuses warm spice notes into the glaze; can be omitted for a straightforward flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves adds depth; nutmeg is a suitable substitute
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar balances sweetness with acidity; white vinegar works in a pinch

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Cooking Honey Baked Ham
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and set the ham on a rack in a roasting pan.
  2. In a saucepan, combine honey, brown sugar, melted butter, Dijon mustard, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and apple cider vinegar over medium heat, stirring until smooth.
  3. Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern and brush half of the glaze over it.
  4. Loosely cover the ham with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, basting every 30 minutes.
  5. Remove the foil and brush the remaining glaze over the ham, then bake uncovered for another 30 minutes.
  6. Let the ham rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.
